The
Altona Lacrosse Club was founded in 1964. The first clubrooms were
located behind Altona Gate Shopping Centre at A.W. Bond Reserve. The Club
moved to its current location at Paisley Park in 1984.
Altona
Lacrosse Club is unique in that it is the only Lacrosse Club in Victoria
that has full use of its facilities 12 months of the year. The Club has
four lacrosse specific playing fields, one of which can be used for night
games, and a box lacrosse court that also has floodlights.
Our
grounds are among the best in the State and our commitment to the lacrosse
community is demonstrated in our willingness to provide our training
facilities for the use of Victorian and Australian representative sides.
Altona
Lacrosse Club has Level 2 Good Sports accreditation. This
accreditation recognises that the Club promotes a responsible attitude
towards alcohol and that it provides a safe environment for players,
members, families and supporters. The Good Sports program is an
initiative of the Australian Drug Foundation.
This
season the Club will field 3 Senior Men’s teams and Boys teams in Under
18’s, Under 16’s and Under 14’s. The Club also has 2 Senior Women’s sides
and Girls teams in Under 15’s and Under 13’s. We also field two mixed
Under 12’s sides.
Our
canteen is open on Saturdays from 8.30 am. A healthy evening meal is also
provided most Saturday nights at a very reasonable price. All club
members and their families and friends are welcome. The Club has a TV
with DVD and a large screen data projector, a video game system, stereo
system and an air hockey/pool table for everyone to enjoy.
In order
to retain access to our grounds all year, we pay substantial fees for our
lights and ground rental from the Council (over $6,000 per annum).
Despite the outlays, our player fees are among the cheapest in Victoria.
To keep fees low, fund raising within and outside of the Club is needed.
Many club members have donated numerous items for raffles, and others have
given up their spare time to help run tournaments and organise functions.
These activities contribute to Club revenue. The workload is heavy but
enjoyable and volunteers are always welcome. All Club members are
expected to support Club functions.
