State League Altona 7 lost to Surrey Park 17

Altona's chances of making the State League finals was snuffed out by Surrey Park on the weekend.  For some unknown reason Altona struggles more against Surrey than they should.  Maybe it is the constant Surrey whinging for frees from the umpires that just gets too much for the A's and they just switch off.  Whatever the reason, the A's did not come out after half time and the Parkers ran away with the game.  Billy Martin did well in goals with Grego unavailable and with major injuries to Alan Lewer and Damian Cliffe maybe we are getting a better idea of why things went wrong.  Without Mini and Al to share the load, Marzy did his best to carry the attack on his own and was rewarded with 3 votes but it was not enough to get the A's over the line.

Goals: R. Maher 3 goals, D. Cliffe 2 goals, L. Mackinnon 1 goal, A. Lewer 1 goal, T. Martin 4 assists.

Votes: R. Maher 3 votes, H. Keenan 2 votes, J. Manning 1 vote.

Division 1 Melbourne Uni 16 defeated Altona 3

Sadly the lack of discipline to train is now seeping into not even turning up to the game for some players.  As a result Altona had just 10 players to take the field.  The players who did front tried hard but with so few numbers they never had a chance against the students.

Goals: C. Fennell 2 goals, D. McGee 1 goal.

Votes: M. Zicman 3 votes, N. Robson 2 votes, C. Fennell 1 vote.

Division 3 Altona 25 defeated Bendigo 1

The A's booked a place in the finals with an easy win against the very inexperienced Bendigo side. Darren Brown and John Pacifici scored at will and were given ample opportunities from a young midfield line that continually ran the ball out of defence.

Goals: D. Brown 12 goals 1 assist, J. Pacifici 5 goals 7 assists, M. Lewer 3 goals, C. Marks 1 goal 1 assist, J. Butson 1 goal, J. Bleed 1 goal.

Best: J. Pacifici 3 votes, D. Brown 2 votes, T. Fiteni 1 vote.

Under 16 Altona 17 defeated Footscray 9

The A's did just enough to put an end to Footscray's finals aspirations.  Mira Millard and Campbell Mackinnon kept the score moving along whilst Jia Patterson was unpassable in defence.

Goals: M. Millard 7 goals 3 assists, C. Mackinnon 5 goals 2 assists, C. Keenan 2 goals 1 assist, H. Stephenson 2 goals, D. Thompson 1 goal, J. Patterson 1 assist.

Votes: J. Patterson 3 votes, C. Mackinnon 2 votes, M. Millard 1 vote.

Under 14 Altona 10 lost to Chadstone 25

The A's tried hard but were no match for a strong Chaddy side.  It has been a tough year but with most of the side still available in Under 14s next year the side is well placed to be a force in 2011.

Goals: C. Keenan 5 goals, B. Farrugia 2 goals 2 assists, A. Webster 1 goal 1 assist, L. McDonald 1 goal, W. McDonald 1 goal, T. Benning 1 assist.

Best: B. Farrugia 3 votes, C. Keenan 2 votes, A. Webster 1 vote.

Under 12 Altona Vikings 8 defeated Knox 6

The A's played very well in a very even team display.

Goals: M. Adub 2 goals 2 assists, U. Verbeek 2 goals 2 assists, Shania Verbeek 2 goals 1 assist, J. Millard 2 goals 1 assist, K. Williams 1 assist.

Best: M. Adub 3 votes, Shania Verbeek 2 votes, J. Millard 1 vote.

Under 12 Altona Pirates 5 lost to Eltham Russell 7

The A's lost a close one against a good Eltham side.  Cousins Samuel Latu and Mone Lino played well for the A's.

Goals: M. Lino 2 goals 1 assist, T. Harley 1 goal 1 assist, W. McDonald 1 goals 1 assist, G. Madut 1 goal, S. Latu 1 assist.

Best: S. Latu 3 votes, M. Lino 2 votes, T. Harley 1 vote.

Sunday August 15

Under 15 Altona 10 lost to Newport 13

Altona ran out of time as it gradually pulled in a Newport side that at one stage led by 7 goals.  It was a great effort by the girls with no subs and then an injury to be playing with 9 for most of the second half but still continuing to score goals despite being exhausted against a side with 3 subs.  Kaitlin was the best player on the ground by a mile despite her and Shana often having to compete against 2 or 3 opponents who were doing everything they could to literally push them off the ball.  In the end our preview of the game was half right, the A's certainly got some bruises but could not quite get over the 'porters.

Best:  K. Hughes, S. Kukucka, B. Kukucka, L. Georgopoulos.

Goals: K. Hughes 4 goals 2 assists, A. Klepner 2 goals, S. Kukucka 1 goal 3 assists, Brooke Kukucka 1 goal 1 assist, Breahna Kukucka 1 goal, S. Norris 1 goal.
